How To Get Earache Relief From Home

Earache happens at least once in a person’s lifetime. It may happen most especially during school age. Most often than not, earache occurs right after an episode of cough and cold or sore throat. This is due to some fluid build-up during the infection process which may lead to inflammation of the tubes in the ear canal.

When this happens, earache may be accompanied with pressure felt inside the ears as well as drainage coming out of the ears. Doctors may prescribe some antibiotics for this instance but is also helpful to try out some home remedies for earache.

Chew Your Way To Pain Relief. Chewing a gum and occasional swallowing of food or even saliva can allow drainage of the Eustachian tube and can free the ear canals from any blockage which may be causing the pain.

Hot Compressing the Ear. Heat has a soothing property, making it one of the common home remedies for earache. Using a warm pad or wrapping a towel around a bottle with hot water inside will allow warm air to soothe your middle or inner ear from inflammation or irritation.

Ear Drying. Using a hair dryer can also promote warm air to blow into your ear. Use a blow dryer, set it to warm temperature and use it on your affected ear. Take note, however, not to use this method for more than 5 minutes because this may burn your ear.

Drop Some Oil. Another popular method in the list of home remedies for earache is the use of mineral oil or olive oil. Warm the oil to body temperature and drop a small amount into the affected ear using an ear dropper.

Hydrogen Peroxide. Hydrogen Peroxide can be helpful in clearing a wax buildup which may contribute to the earache you are experiencing. In most cases, earaches or ear pressure is just due to some impacted cerumen (earwax). This should not prompt you to seek a doctor if you can remedy it at home.

If after some hours or days, your earache still doesn’t get any relief, it may be reasonable to seek professional help because it may be due to some ear infections like otitis media or otitis externa- common infections of the middle ear and outer ear, respectively. In these cases, the physician may prescribe some antibiotics and otic drops. In using an otic drop, make sure you ask your physician as to how you should administer it- it varies depending on the age of the one using.

There are different home remedies for earache which will be helpful and will actually save you more money. Search the internet or some home remedy book resources- this will greatly help you not just for ear aches and other conditions, as well.
